Disinter - The Tomb Ritual of Bathos

The walls of the crypt, The mouldering stiff
Its caved-in face's parted lips
The fumes permeate, I inhale and intake
Its last fleeting bid to keep me at bay
-The Knife-

Carving symbols all over this withered man
Symbols, I'll ne'er understand
Performing this simple rite
I've but learned at the cost of the bulk of my life

This body contorts in the dim candlelight
I shall not live to awake from this night

Approaching storm shrouds out the moon
I sense myself slipping away
My bones become brittle as I welcome my doom
And this skeletal husk leads the way

Though unbending, cold lips reveal to me the fall
Hinting at truths of some forgotten doomscrawl

Its moss-riddled sockets hopeless stare
Pieces not the ceiling but longs for the air
How batten this corpse Had I once thought
I set ablaze tired flesh long stricken with rot

Woebegone- Their cities I shan't see fall into everlasting ruin
Torchbearers come- Through an opening I see them gather slowly around this tomb
Wearisome- My effigy of life's now ash and I shall follow soon
Torchbearers come- They find me screaming amongst the exhumed
Crucified on the wall!

Coughing up much more than blood
A heretic dies in shame
I mutter a curse before leaving this plane
Conscious they'll burn my remains

The walls of the crypt, The mouldering stiff
How can they understand
Beyond open graves all life is enslaved
I enter this deceased promised land
