J minus - No sleep tonight

1 am and you're lying in your bed
you await the sandman to slip inside your head
but he doesn't seem to come
only visions of the one you used to love
they would occupy the empty space beside you
now there is only shadow and a pillow that reminds you
of what will never be again
another fallen lover
another fallen friend
it could take you days or even years
but your body will let you know
when you begin letting go

Take down the pictures from the walls
erase now the number you should never need to call
they need something else and so do you
nurse the wounds

4 am and the sleeping pills have passed their prime
no sleep tonight
there is nothing else to do but to dive down deep
face the love, the lies and the failed compromise
what went missing? what went wrong?
as you understand the answers they will help with moving on
there is someone waiting for you
but you will never know 'til you let them go

the sun is creeping inside
peeking through the blinds
