From where the thief stood he could see the ruins of the great hall
Wherein chained captives Had knelt by the hundreds during festivals
To have their heads hacked off by the priest-king in Honor of Set
The Serpent-God of Stygia

I saw him summoned forth from beyond their darkest gate
And there, beyond the virgin's cries,
Did the serpent God awake!

Arise!

I saw him rise!
From beyond their gate!
King of Acheron!
Bring back the glory days!

Oh, scaly lord of the shadows awake!
Arch-demon!
Out of Stygia, come the year of the snake
God of darkness!
Rise again from your ages of slumber!
Scaled and shining one!

Children of the deeps, I call you!
Bring forth him!
The captives are gathered
Nighted shrines and the blood of virgins
Kneel down to receive the master
The hour draws near!

Below the black earth, far away from the sun
The old serpent coils asleep
From bloodstained altars, where naked women scream
The smoke rises high for the one
