Backstory:
Midsummernight - Noc Kupały - shortest night of the year, there is, and more prominently was, a festival (summer soltice festival) to celebrate this day. It was predominately expressed in the evening/night, as there would be massive bonfires fires, around which was a feast, and afterwards an orgy typically followed. All of which was done within close proximity to the pagan trees of Poland.
