Bird of Hermes - Femicide

Standing in his bedroom, Charlotte looks out the window.
Bats fly past the starry sky as Count Byron begins to cry.
She turns to him in surprise.
“I'm sorry,” he says softly.
“I never thought I'd see you again.”
“Who do you think I am?”

“I know who you are.
You're Charlotte, my long lost wife.
Returned to me by the power of reincarnation.
So many wives I've had, but you are my true love.
The one I've been searching for for decades now.”
“What happened to her? To the other Charlotte?”
“She was murdered by humans,” Count Byron solemnly replies.
“I should have changed her into a monster.”
“Why didn't you?” Charlotte asks.
“Because this is a curse.
It is not a blessing.
I couldn't do it to her.
Even if it meant losing her.”
“Why did they kill her?”
“Called her a witch for daring to love a monster like me.
But I won't let that happen to you ever again.”

Count Byron walks across the room
and grabs Charlotte's hands in his.
“We will be wed this very night.
And I will change you before dawn breaks.
I'm sorry that I have to rush,
but a dark thought has haunted me.
When the last vampire dies, who will mourn our passing?”
