If I were to tell you
There waits a beast behind the door
What would your mind conjure
But feelings of fear
What if it were a ghost
The spirit of one long dead
What feelings fill your heart then
Deepest darkest dread

Beyond the gates of infinity
Nothing natural can make the chasmic leap

Yet still there lies another
Puzzling possibility
Behind the door rests a god
Omnipotent and wise
What now forebodes it’s release
Only inexpressible awe
Nothing in our experience
Could paint its likeness

A state of confusion
Swirls inside my head
Shadows of truth unseen
Dance on the periphery
What is unchallenged?
What is writ in stone?
Black veils of indecision
Covering all my cares

There is comfort in knowing what you believe
But true power of conviction and certainty lies

Do we create to destroy in the end
Why is there pain if our God’s wholly good
Why is there free will if not to freely love
Why do we fear when there’s hope
In the power of why

The foundation is solid
If it’s laid on stone
Standing secure and strong
Against the wind and waves
What house can stand if built on sinking sand?
All our beliefs constructed
Fall with weakness of reason
