Hubris - Our Ship Means Death

Land ho! Quant little trading village ahead
Full stop! If spotted by day we’ll all be surely dead
Open the rum, for moonlight we must wait
Taking the long draft while our covert raid we contemplate
We’ll snuff the guards with poison arrows leaving town for spoil
The death’s head flag will bring their blood to boil

No civilian militia will stop this brazen horde,
After we fatten up our pockets then we’re back aboard!
Our ship means death for thee!

Your faithful town guards, garroted by the saber
Your wooden walls, slapped with oil, put to torch
The cannon balls that strike your walls
We took them from your neighbor
That last town over –
They were condemned to burn

These ruthless pirates, filthy criminal raiders
Shackle daughters and your sons for our ranks
The steeple topples, no mercy for crusaders
Pilfer every precious stone, burn the homes,
Then back to the bloody banks!

Heave ho! Back to the open sea
Outrunning a royal fleet
Just as bold a sport as piracy
Now hear the sounds,
Death’s head flying proud,
The ringing cannons carry our message loud:

To the next port sporting forth the cross of God
To kill His mates, loves His ladies,
And depose His fraud!
And dead ye all shall be!
